With SDCC currently going on, Hasbro has announced a slew of new Star Wars action figures. Of course, some are new, and some are repaints of previously released figures. But, hey, at least we’re getting a Black Series version of Bill Burr’s Migs Mayfeld.
Migs Mayfeld joins an HK-87 droid, Bo-Katan Kryze, a Dark Trooper, and Grogu as the next wave of 1/12 scale Star Wars action figures. If you’re wondering why Bo-Katan and the Dark Trooper are showing up again, it’s because they’re now sporting new paint jobs. The Credit Collection” refers to action figures with paint schemes that mirror the end credits of the Disney+ series they appear in. So yup. Hasbro is double dippin’.
Bo and the Dark Trooper will arrive in December, while the rest will ship out in March and May next year.
Thankfully, we do get at least one Original Trilogy character in this lineup, even if Hasbro is trying to tell us he’s from The Mandalorian series. Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker is here and comes with a pretty good-looking cloak. Softgoods can be hit or miss in all of Hasbro’s 6″ figure lines, but the photos available give me hope that things are improving.
The head sculpt differs from the Black Series figure I picked up a few years ago. It’s not better, but far from the worst Luke I’ve seen come out of this line of toys. His lightsaber looks somewhat improved, and the blade is now less translucent.
Luke is priced at $24.99 but won’t ship until May 1st, 2023.
Keeping with the theme of the OT, a new Force FX Elite Lightsaber has been announced, too. This time it’s Darth Vader’s saber. I believe this is the hilt from The Empire Strikes Back. I own a replica of the flash initially used to create his saber, and many of the little details are there, including the tension ring inside the emitter opening. The description says it’s from the Obi-Wan series on Disney+ for whatever reason.
Overall, I’d say this saber’s not bad. However, $278.99 is a steep price for one of these things. It’s fantastic that the kyber crystal is removable, but almost $300? Really? The description claims this is “the most realistic Force FX Lightsaber yet,” but there’s no video showing these improved features. There’s also no mention of the new features added to other saber blades, like the clash effects and so on. Regardless, the saber is available to order right now.
