The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be celebrating it’s 95th year today and debuting in 2021 will be ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian’ character Grogu, otherwise known as Baby Yoda.

Funko, Inc. and Lucasfilm are working together to create this Funko Pop! Baby Yoda balloon. The new inflatable harbinger of joy will measure 41 feet high, 29 feet long and 37 feet wide.  Bet Stormtroopers don’t try to punch him now.  Don’t worry if they shoot at it they’ll miss.

Will Coss, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade executive producer is very excited to have the now not so small star on board:

The giant balloons in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade have always reflected the very best of pop culture and there is no better example of that than Grogu who has become an instant global sensation. We are thrilled to collaborate with Funko and Lucasfilm on this Funko Pop! version of the beloved character that is sure to delight legions of Star Wars galaxy fans.

Funko CEO Brian Mariotti is equally excited:

Funko is ecstatic to bring the Funko Pop! version of the character as a Grogu-themed balloon to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Connecting one of pop culture’s most recognizable characters from one of the biggest entertainment brands in the world with one of our nation’s most beloved holiday traditions is truly a moment in pop culture history that will be remembered by Funko fans and millions of other viewers.

But merchandising!

Of course there will be merchandise it’s Funko and Disney.  There will be a limited-edition Macy’s Parade balloon product line that will be available at the Herald Square Macy’s location this fall.

Funko will also release a line of Grogu items including keychains, bobbleheads, and clothing.

Of course Disney and Lucasfilm are thrilled as well. Paul Southern, Lucasfilm’s Senior VP of Franchising and Licensing said:

This fall, fans will be able to see Grogu reimagined in a size befitting his impact in the Star Wars galaxy and pop culture, as well as enjoy a new sampling of Grogu-inspired products in celebration of this momentous occasion.

I just think it’s a neat thing that Baby Yoda is getting a balloon in the Macy’s Parade.
