In June 2019, Universal Orlando opened their new themed restaurant concept known as Bigfire American Grill. This location replaced the Emeril’s full-service dining in that spot within Universal Orlando CityWalk. As name implies, they like fire here. Food cooked over flames with specific types of wood set diners taste buds ablaze with flavor. The menu offers steaks, sizzling appetizers, seafood, pork, and burgers.
The appetizer menu proposes high quality products like Oysters Rockefeller, Wood Charred Brussel Sprouts, and Skillet Roasted Mussels.
Today, we will explore the mussels.
Mussels may not be your idea of something to have at a themed mid-level steakhouse. Still, I have never heard a guest disappointed with these as a choice. Costing $14, the menu describes the mussels as “sizzling with herb broth, white wine, chives, (and) smoked salt.” Grilled bread also adorns this appetizer.
Though not a fan of mussels, I have several Universal Orlando friends that enjoy mussels. True to menu listing, the mussels come out sizzling. Moreover, some guests say they come out more sizzling than the steaks. The overall flavor of the mussels functions well. The presentation of this appetizer also helps with the enjoyment. If fan of well-prepared mussels, this appetizer could be calling you to visit Bigfire.
Now, portion size of appetizer appears large enough to elect to have this as your entire meal. This would be a good decision especially if you are planning to enjoy tableside smores for dessert. Recently, discussions of portion sizes at theme parks have created tension. Previously, I wrote about apparent portion sizes changes at Mythos.
In contrast, Bigfire seems to have increased portion size of mussels appetizer since 2019. Fortunately, my friend, Kimmie, enjoys mussels. Also, she takes photos of her dining choices (which I appreciate). Recently, she messaged me about portion size being larger. Just like the Mythos question of portion size, I will allow you to decide. In my opinion, she looks right. Still, the mussels served as a solid dining value back in 2019. Perhaps, the value of this item has increased. On your next trip to Universal Orlando CityWalk, choose wisely regarding food. Consider these mussels. As always, enjoy yourself!
