Singer Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, known by her stage name Doja Cat, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. She began her career in 2012 but didn’t gain traction until late 2017/early 2018 with her first studio album titled “Amala”.
In 2019 she gained more success with her second album “Hot Pink” and in 2021 with her 3rd album “Planet Her”. She has won multiple awards for her albums and has had multiple songs in the Top 40.
Recently the artist celebrated her 26th Birthday on October 21st. When she took to her Instagram she did something nobody expected. She decided to celebrate by cosplaying Princess Kida from the 2001 Disney film Atlantis: The Lost Empire. The film recently celebrated its 20th Anniversary and Kida is considered to be Disney’s first Black Princess, despite not being apart of the official lineup.
As of writing this article her post has gotten almost 5 Million Likes and has been shared across social media, commenting on how well she portrays and accurate version of the character. It even got the attention of the original voice of Kida, Cree Summer.

It is an interesting choice for her to choose this character since she would have only been 5 Years Old when it originally came out. Perhaps she has good taste in characters. She also wore the outfit to a club where she can be seen dancing in costume.
This is definitely a pleasant surprise for a few reasons. 1. It is nice to see a more obscure Disney Princess getting the spotlight. 2. It brings more attention to the original film, especially to those who might have not heard of it before. 3. Because Atlantis is one of my favorite Disney films, and whenever I see it get some mainstream recognition it makes me happy.
