It looks like Shop Disney is trying to do what it can with the site problems they face with high demand items. They have now added a virtual waiting room to the site.
I first saw this a couple of days ago when the Disney face masks dropped. Many of us have seen the virtual waiting room on the regular Disney site and it was up when the runDisney site opened up it’s Virtual Series registration.
Now Shop Disney is advertising the waiting room in regards to the upcoming May the 4th Star Wars sale.
How this will help, I’m not sure. Lately there has been a bunch of issues with people not able to shop the Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Collections and we saw the Joe Rohde Disney Designer Ears be gone in a blink. We also know that people are using questionable services that will order for them and are putting through many orders at once to buy up limited edition merchandise, of which, a lot ends up on eBay right after.
I’m not sure how this will stop that, if anything, it will just put people in waiting rooms for a long time, only to emerge to nothing being left. At least when you could keep trying some eventually got through. Maybe the thought is they can keep people from constantly refreshing and plugging up the site. What they need to do it stop the collectible bot farms from plugging the site and buying up everything for their customers. Hopefully this does that because I don’t think they like the amount of calls they get everytime something launches and people can’t get through.
