Recently the director of Marvel’s’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton, has inked an exclusive multi-year deal with both Marvel and Onyx Collective and will be developing both a sequel to Shang-Chi and an MCU series for Disney Plus.

Tara Duncan, president of Freeform and Onyx Collective had this to say about the signing:

Destin is a powerhouse storyteller with impeccable taste in material. As we continue to expand our roster. Destin’s unique voice will help usher in an exciting slate of content for our global audience.

Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, also had this to say about Destin:

Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney Plus. So we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.

Destin went on to speak about his excitement for the signing:

Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about Tara’s vision for Onyx Collective. I can’t wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community.

The first Shang-Chi film went on to make $432 Million at the Global Box Office against a $200 Million budget. It is believed had the film been exclusive to theaters that revenue could have been higher. Not to mention the impact of the film not releasing in China, the country the film was catering to.

It is unknown what IP the young director will be helming for his Disney Plus series, but some speculate that a new version of Iron Fist might appear in the Shang-Chi Sequel. Only time will tell what we can expect.

Are you excited to see Shang-Chi return to the MCU?
