Not that long ago director Sam Raimi, known for his popular Spider-Man Trilogy, lasting from 2002 – 2007, said that he was open to doing a fourth film.

The Raimi Spider-Man series was originally meant to consist of four films with the 4th film canceled after he and SONY were unable to agree on the direction of the film. The Tobey Maguire series was then replaced with the Andrew Garfield series in 2012.

With Spider-Man: No Way Home being a massive box office success there has been demand for seeing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield finish their respective series.

However it appears that the idea of seeing a fourth Tobey Maguire film may be a bit more far off than we originally realized.

While promoting the new Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness film Raimi mentioned  that no current plans exist to peruse doing a fourth Spider-Man film at this point:

“I currently don’t have any plans to make Spider-Man 4. And they’re so successful with the new Spider-Man series that I don’t know if that’s gonna happen or not. I haven’t pursued that.“

This doesn’t mean that the concept of seeing a fourth and final Raimi Spider-Man film is dead in the water, but that the boat hasn’t left the docks yet. With Raimi only recently returning to superhero films after 15 years he may need some time to warm back up for the job.

With SONY looking to expand their Spider-Man film series to try and flesh out the Spider-Verse they are most likely looking for something they may see as crowd pleasing. Now with the demand from long time fans to see the older actor(s) return to their roles they may see it as big money and will happily pursue that.
