There is a kind-of-new Star Wars rumor that Lucasfilm is going to start doing quarterly shows for Disney+ beginning in mid-2021. The alleged plan is to take Star Wars characters and give them their own show but also have them all interconnect somehow too. So much for “Brand Fatigue.”
It sounds a lot like what they did with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The rumor comes from LRM Online and they equate it to Game of Thrones:
“According to my source at Lucasfilm the plan is to create a universe where all the shows will be connected with a central storyline. One big inspiration was the popular Game of Thrones series. I know it’s a weird comparison, but let me explain. Instead of making one epic Game of Thrones show, it’d be like if each family had their own show with a central storyline that spills over into the others.”
So far the shows that would fall into this rumored plan would be:
- The Mandalorian
- The Ahsoka Tano show
- Boba Fett Show
- Ezra Bridger/Grand Admiral Thrawn Show
- Unnamed Star Wars Show
As far as the source knows the Obi-Wan show and likely the Cassian Andor Show would be their own things.
The Emperor of these new shows would be Dave Filoni as he will reportedly be overseeing all of these. Not sure why it’s Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy. Maybe Kennedy will be overseeing her Leslye Headland narrative show. The “Thank God Star Wars now will have a strong female led show that takes place in an alternate time with new force rules show.”
Sorry, I’m just so tired of hearing that ‘Star Wars finally has strong female characters’ when it has always had strong female characters.
Of course this is all rumor so take it with a grain of salt. I just don’t understand why Disney kept saying “Brand Fatigue” and is now trying to push even more out. I hope they don’t turn The Mandalorian into the “Baby Yoda Cash Cow show”. They finally seemed to get it with The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda is cute and all, but I’m worried they are going to push so hard for cash they’ll ruin it.
Only time will tell.
