As Sam Eagle will tell you, “It’s called a salute to all nations, but mostly America.” The American pavilion in Epcot World Showcase strives to show off a special brand of being part of the USA. The Regal Eagle Smokehouse thankfully replaced The Liberty Inn as a counter service option in this pavilion. The Regal Eagle Smokehouse provides decent BBQ food. For obvious reasons, the food here fails to meet the standard of The Polite Pig in Disney Springs. However, that makes for an unfair comparison. Yet, this place offers several USA regional varieties of BBQ for a decent price.
One of the better options found here goes by the name of Sliced Texas Beef Brisket Sandwich.
The sandwich and choice of side costs $13.49. The menu description tells us to expect meat rubbed with their secret “Brisket Rub.” The promise of slow smoked meat comes from the menu description. Though for some BBQ fans, a red flag of reading about meat smothered in a “Spicy Mop” sauce appears in description. For Texas style BBQ, the meat should not need much sauce if any. However, the brisket comes to you served between two slices of Texas style toast. I think way more sandwiches should be served on Texas style/garlic toast. For your sides, you can choose onion rings, fries, baked beans, coleslaw, or mac & cheese.
So how was it?
As you might expect, the toast features a solid buttery element with a touch of saltiness. Most guests find the bread to be soft for counter service level food. Despite the sauce factor, the toast tends to hold up without falling apart. The brisket itself holds up to decent BBQ flavor. The quality of meat sometimes leaves guests with some unwanted fat pieces. Still, the meat quality works for this sandwich. The portion size provides decent theme park value. Though I think too much sauce comes with this sandwich, the brisket quality rates above average.
There are easily far worse dining choices in Epcot for counter service at this price point. Since this place offers burgers and other BBQ options, a family can dine here with everyone finding something they like. As I mentioned, The Polite Pig makes better BBQ. However, anyone dining here would get no judgment from me.
As always, eat like you mean it!
