Dining at Universal Orlando dramatically improved over the last few years with numerous new quality food/beverage options over the last several years. These improvements have lifted dining at Universal Orlando into a reasonable conversation with other prominent dining areas in Orlando area. However, sometimes you desire a simple meal that does not kill your budget. This idea of not killing your budget raises itself to a higher priority especially if teenagers feature prominently in your group. So how does a family afford to dine at Universal Orlando? Well, one way involves ordering the Volcano Nachos at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville at Universal Orlando CityWalk.

Now, Margaritaville restaurants appear in more places that just Universal Orlando. This restaurant continues as a third-party restaurant at Universal Orlando CityWalk. By no means would I define this as fine dining. Still, the signature appetizer here offers incredible presentation, taste, quality, and value. As the title should indicate, I speak of the Volcano Nachos.

These Volcano Nachos arguably rank as best nachos in Orlando area. Currently, these cost $21.95.  The menu description sounds ordinary with words like tortilla chips layered with chili, cheese, pico de gallo, fresh guacamole, sour cream, and jalapeños.

So why should you get these nachos? Let me count the reasons. First, almost every chip comes covered in topping. The chips are layered with toppings while being prepared. You rarely find a chip with no toppings with these nachos.

Second, the quality of these standard nacho style toppings creates solid flavor experience. Now, none of these ingredients should be seen as great. However, together they balance together nicely.

Third, and most importantly, these nachos should not be consumed by one person. The portion size demands sharing. If you have two (or more) hungry teens to feed, this appetizer by itself might work. Also, if you are going to dine here in a small group, do not order this then think you are having full entrees afterwards. Unless you are training for a professional eating competition, these nachos make a sharable entrée or a large appetizer for a large group. Having ordered these as my entrée before, this mountain of chips and dip demands effort to complete.

Whatever reason you order this mountain of chips and dip, you will enjoy the nachos adventure.

As always, eat like you mean it!
