Review of Jambalaya at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company at Universal Orlando CityWalk

Recently, I had an average experience at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company at Universal Orlando CityWalk. I decided, as any very part time blogger should do, to go back again to see if my experience was common. I know that Bubba Gump is not one of the highest rated places in CityWalk. However, it is generally easy for takeout. Takeout was my preference since I was doing a primarily solo trip to Universal Orlando.

Since my visit a few days earlier was average at best, I decided to have one of my go-to options at Bubba Gump. I ordered the Jambalaya.

The Jambalaya costs $19.99. It contains shrimp, chicken, andouille sausage, Tasso ham, bell peppers, white onions, steamed rice, tomatoes, and green onions. According to the menu, the calories count for this entrée is only 790 calories. I feel that calories count for a theme park resort restaurant is low if you are counting vacation calories.

In my effort to avoid Landry’s Select Club drama, I ordered in person at the bar. This menu item is no frills, so it is easy to order. This is something I order often here.

My modest critique of this item previously was portion size was smaller than expected for price point.

Maybe it was because it was takeout or because staff recognized me from payment issues earlier in week, the portion size of my to-go order was larger than I expected. The food was still warm when I made it back to Aventura resort.

So how was it?

Well, it will not make you forget about the best Cajun style New Orleans food you have ever experienced.

JambalayaThe portion size was excellent, but you be the judge via my photos. The rice was a bit mushy but that could have to do with the to-go container. The rice flavor was well above average. All the proteins tasted relatively fresh. The ham and sausage were better than I remembered. The shrimp could have been better but did not take way from the entrée’s quality. Though I would prefer a higher spice level, the spice was noticeable while also helping the dish overall.

This trip to Bubba Gump was far better. I have many other items at Universal Orlando that I would choose over this. Still, this is not a bad entrée for value and quality. If members of your group are looking for something standard like fried chicken or fried shrimp, then you could get this entrée for a quality theme park resort meal at Bubba Gump.
