When discussions of theme park food at Universal Studios Florida come up, I expect to hear good or really bad things. Though Universal Orlando improved their overall food quality over the last several years, some places still rate poorly. When I say rates poorly, I mean Fast N Furious attraction level of poor quality. The offenders of below average food usually offer burgers and pizza.
If you find yourself in Universal Studios Florida’s San Francisco area, you will see Richter’s Burger Co. Though the menu changes periodically, the core of the menu here depends on burgers. The premium burger offered here is the “Mushroom Swiss Truffle” burger. This interesting sounding burger costs $16.49. Fries come as a side.
The burger patty is a half-pound Creekstone Farms Premium black Angus beef. NBC Sports Grill and Brew uses the same type burger patty. The quality of burger produced at NBC Sports Grill and Brew brings hope to guests seeing the menu description. The topping of this burger brings culinary hope. The combination of Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and truffle aioli should create a solid burger.
So how does this quick service burger rank?
On the positive side, a half-pound burger patty should provide a filling meal for most people. In addition, the truffle aioli brings a nice flavor to this burger. Also, when/if the toppings bar returns here, guests can add more vegetables to this burger combination.
On the negative side, most guests experience a very dry burger. I would compare the preparation to something beyond well done for a good table service burger. For best comparison, it ranks equal with Walt Disney World counter service frozen below average burger patties. I wonder how NBC Sports Grill and Brew can use the same brand of burger patty to create mostly solid burger if Richter’s fails at it most of the time. Also, the burger tends to lack enough sauce, mushroom, and cheese for this price point. In case you were wondering, the bun quality ranks below average also.
In fairness, some lucky guests order this burger and get a well-prepared burger. However, percentages say that will not be you. For me, I only dine at Richter’s when I must review a product. If you really want a burger, walk to CityWalk. Good burgers are easy to find in CityWalk.
As always, eat like you mean it!
