Review: General Tso Chicken Salad at Connections Eatery at Epcot

In a little over a month of operation, the Connections Eatery made good impressions with guests. Some frequent visitors to Epcot have already found their new favorite go-to menu items at Connections Eatery. Connections Eatery offers counter service style food in the area formerly known as “Future World.” The clean spacious modern looks of this place beckon people within. Yet, the umbrella of menu mainly consists of pizza, burgers, sandwiches, and salads.

When viewing my twitter feed, I see continual positive references to a salad there. Yes, I wrote the words salad and positive referring to a counter service theme park item. This praiseworthy salad sounds like it belongs to Panda Express. The “General Tso Chicken Salad” costs $11.49 here. The menu description brings promise of a nice salad. This salad offers a petite kale blend, broccoli slaw, red bell pepper, mandarin oranges, edamame, crispy wontons, and warm fried chicken. The salad comes with a “General Tso’s Dressing.” I fail to remember seeing this type dressing in my local grocery store. Guests should expect a slightly different flavor with this. However, most guests declare this combination of ingredients works well.

My favorite quote I saw about this salad says so much. They said” For a salad, this is great!” So even a non-salad person can enjoy this salad apparently. Numerous reasons can be found for this salad to be considered on your next trip to Epcot. First, you get real bowls and silverware. That fact makes the meal feel more upscale. However, if you find yourself carrying a tray full of food, those bowls/plates will be heavy-be prepared! Second, the portion size of the chicken rates as fair for a counter service salad. In addition, the chicken tastes above average especially with the flavorful sauce. Third, the ingredients look and taste fresh. Even the mandarin oranges and edamame were crisp and fresh. The vegetables, especially, offer fresh aroma and texture.

I could continue to wax poetic about the air conditioning and/or the free soda refills at Connections Eatery. Should you order this? Well, if you are sick of burgers and pizza, this offers a light meal with solid flavor. Will this be the best salad ever? Clearly, this salad fails to meet that standard. However, the touch of a bit of Asian cuisine with a fresh salad should not be overlooked. Also, several counter service locations within Walt Disney World would charge a similar fee for below average chicken. The value of this salad makes it a worthy choice. The taste of it makes it something many people keep coming back to enjoy.

As always, eat like you mean it!
