Review: Cheeseburger Pods Satu’li Canteen in Animal Kingdom

Most likely, the best counter service restaurant in all of Walt Disney World resides in Animal Kingdom. The wonderful Pandora themed area provides guests with Satu’li Canteen. This place offers non-traditional theme park food. I always give more points to the places with non-traditional food. I love burgers, fries, pizza, and chicken tenders. Still, that gets old quickly during a weeklong theme park vacation.

However, Satu’li Canteen offers theme park food taste with a twist known as the Cheeseburger Steamed Pods. The bao buns style pods provide a non-traditional type of menu item that even picky eaters will enjoy. These make the perfect option for diners not wanting to create their own style bowls at Satu’li Canteen.

The menu description tells us this will be steamed cheeseburger pods stuffed with ground beef, ketchup, mustard, pickles, and cheddar cheese. The pods come with crunchy vegetable slaw and vegetable chips. This entrée cost $12.79. For adult entrées, you get two bao buns. The kid’s version comes with one bao bun. For full disclosure, I have started this review several times over the last year or so. The price for these increases every time I start to write a review. Perhaps the price increase will stop when this gets published.

So how do these pods and sides taste? The simplest explanation would compare the pods to a good McDonald’s cheeseburger in a boa bun. Also, you will feel better eating two of these than two fast food cheeseburgers. These bao buns provide a strong seasoned beef flavor. The cheese works nicely also, Thankfully, the pickles barely make a taste appearance. For example, some guests never realize they are in there at all. These bao buns function as many veteran Walt Disney World visitors favorite counter service place in the parks.

The sides help but function as nothing special. The chips come in three varieties usually. The sweet potato chips taste above average (if you like sweet potatoes). The house made chips taste like standard Walt Disney World chips (good but not great). The blue tortilla style chips have average flavor though. However, the slaw provides a solid flavor. If you do not like vinegar-based slaw, be prepared though. This same slaw comes inside the bao bun adding more positive flavor within that than outside the bao bun. You can select two sides of chips or two sides of slaw if you choose. I suggest getting both to see which one you prefer though.

The indoor theming of Satu’li Canteen may not blow you away. However, the food will be for this price point. One other helpful hint about dining here. Soft drinks come with free refills while you are dining here. This place could make a good spot to relax, unwind, and maybe have a dessert during your meal experience.

As always, eat like you mean it!
