Earlier today the Reedy Creek Fire Department was dispatched to the Magic Kingdom and the PeopleMover and Space Mountain were temporarily shut down in Tomorrowland. Now we know the cause was not a fire but a smoky fridge in a Cast Member break room.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Tim Stromsnes, the Reedy Creek Firefighters Communications Director indicated it was all over the smoking refrigerator that they unplugged. To be fair I can see why someone thought there was a fire.
“…multiple engines responded but only one engine arrived after an employee who saw the smoke pulled a fire alarm. A firefighter unplugged the fridge, and the fire department’s other units were canceled.”
Eryka Washington, Reedy Creek Spokesperson confirmed that they were indeed called in but there was no actual fire.
Apparently Orange County Fire Rescue was also called in but that call was canceled.
All of this led to Space Mountain being down until 4:45 and The Peoplemover not fully staying open again until 5:45.
Good news, there was no fire and no one was hurt.
