Two more Star Wars characters are about to join Gentle Giant’s Jumbo line of action figures. Ralph McQuarrie’s concepts for Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are getting the classic Kenner treatment!
Though the conceptual versions of Luke and Vader were never realized during the original run of Star Wars figures, the folks over at Gentle Giant managed to recreate what the duo would have looked like had the line ventured into this territory. Both figures measure 12″ tall and will cost $80 each.
Luke and Vader will both have lightsabers, but only Vader’s will feature the retro telescoping effect. Vader also comes with his familiar vinyl cape, while Luke sports a breathing mask and red-tinted goggles. They’re available for pre-order now. However, the shipping date is not listed.

Luke features five points of articulation and includes a white-bladed lightsaber. It comes packaged on a retro-styled cardback in a resealable clamshell blister.
This new 12-inch figure features an all-new concept-inspired head sculpt, a new blue-and-black paint scheme, a vinyl cape and a retractable lightsaber! It comes packaged on a resealable, retro-style blister card, so you can hang him on your wall or take him out and play with him!
Gentle Giant has been producing super-sized replicas of classic Star Wars toys for some time. So it’s cool to see the company tackle more obscure things like the concepts. Several of McQuarrie’s ideas have also made their way into the 3.75″ line of figures, including the terrifying Chewie with the weird open mouth.
I’m particularly fond of this version of Vader
