planDisney Resort Pocket Guide: Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort

It’s been two looooong years. But finally, all Walt Disney World Resorts have reopened in the wake of the global pandemic. Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort was the last resort to welcome guests back, beginning March 31st. With all resorts open, there are more options for guests, and more jobs for hard-working Cast Members. This is a win-win all around!

Similar to Disney’s other All-Star resorts, the All-Star Sports resort takes sports decor to a whole new level.  Gigantic footballs, helmets, and basketballs adorn the grounds. There are even humongous versions of Donald’s pesky nephews – Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Guests can play games on the turf, and there’s plenty of space for Disney Resorts’ signature “Movies Under the Stars.”

The resort is located in the Animal Kingdom neighborhood of Walt Disney World, and is adjacent to Disney’s All-Star Music Resort. Complimentary bus service is the primary option for transportation to other WDW locations, other than by car (by the way, Minnie Vans are coming back!).

All rooms in the All-Star Sports Resort sleep up to four guests. Preferred rooms can place guests closer to Stadium Hall, and its associated dining, shopping, and transportation options.  The planDisney PDF Pocket Guide offers more details on the different room types.

Similar to the other All-Star Resorts, there are no sit-down restaurants at the All-Star Sports resort, but the End Zone Food Court hits the spot for a quick morning breakfast or late-night snack.  Chances are you aren’t spending a ton of mid-day time at the resort, but if you are, the food court offers all the basics. Plus, guests can watch Disney cartoons and sports while eating. Score!

If you are looking for a half gallon of milk or a couple last-minute souvenirs to bring home, Sport Goofy Gifts and Sundries offers small groceries and resort-specific merchandise.

Guests can soak up some Florida sun and soak in the cool waters of the Surfboard Bay Pool – the resort’s larger pool. A smaller kiddie pool is located just outside the main pool. Thirsty guests can grab a drink at the nearby Grandstand Spirits pool bar. Guests looking for a slower paced swim can walk over to the Grand Slam Pool – shaped like a baseball diamond and featuring none other than  Goofy, our favorite Disney sports figure!

While you’re in the neighborhood of the adjacent All-Star Music and All-Star Movies Resorts, take a walk along the paved trails which wind around and through all three resorts. The trails can be a bit crowded at times, but a little patience will reward you with lots of fun characters to see.

The All-Star resorts have a reputation for being Walt Disney World’s “lower-class” resorts. While these value resorts tend to attract larger (and sometimes louder) groups, they are still brimming with giant Disney magic.

planDisney Pocket Guides are especially helpful to guests who are considering staying at a resort they’ve never before experienced. The Pocket Guides take the form of 5-14 page PDF slides, which are easily printable and savable to smart devices. They offer efficient snapshots of the resort basics, including:

  • Transportation options
  • Room sizes
  • Food and beverage options and locations
  • Pools and recreation activities
  • Shopping
  • Tips from the planDisney panel
