Pizza Fries at Universal Orlando Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras at Universal Orlando revealed most of the food items this year very late even for Universal Orlando. Despite that, the changes to menu items never stop this year at Universal Orlando Mardi Gras. Very recently, I tried the Salchipapas for Mardi Gras. These items were located at the rarely open KidZone Pizza Company in Universal Studios Florida. The menu describes them as chorizo, chipotle ketchup, dijonnaise, tomato/onion curtido, and crinkle cut fries.

Like many other items this year, onions are a key component of the food item. This layered item within a bowl offers some interesting flavors though. The fries taste like the standard theme park crinkle fries. Still, the fries reign as the main portion of this item.

When I went to this food area, they were experiencing some operational issues. My first impressions were not great. My first bite left me wondering why I bought this. I thought maybe it was just me. However, I spoke with other guests who ordered this. Their experience matched mine. In fairness, my enjoyment of these loaded fries improved as I got more sauce.

Perhaps, this explains the menu looking different as of February 12th. The menu name for these items now includes the magical words “Pizza Fries.” As best we can tell, the recipe for these covered fries continues to be the same. We will see if the Halloween Horror Nights “Pizza Fries” on sign will change things.

Menu at KidZone Mardi Gras area on February 10th, 2022

On the day, I ate these “fries”, the sauce sank to the bottom. This left the top portion lacking in flavor. I enjoy it when Universal Orlando unveils non-traditional food items. However, this one suffers from a lack of flavor from the chorizo. Like a few other Mardi Gras items this year, you need to get all the ingredients in one bite. When all ingredients are included within a bite, the flavors work great. Yet, the sauce sinking to the bottom of the bowl leaves an inconsistent flavor. Also, with so many ingredients, including them all creates a challenge in each bite.

Based on signage change on February 12, 2022, I face a dilemma with this review. The name “Pizza Fries” was added to sign. Apparently, the name “Pizza Fries” means the same items now costs $2 more before discounts.

When I started writing this review, I felt this item might be worth the money if you wanted to try this variety of flavors. However, even with all possible discounts, I have a hard time recommending this item after confirming reports of menu change on day of writing. As of time of writing based on my sources, this item continues to be made same way. You might enjoy it. However, I recommended most people to get something else with more value and quality. As always, eat like you mean it!
