While I was scrolling Twitter today I can across a post that showcased an old promotional video for the Walt Disney World resort and except for the buses, boats and monorail, every other perk is now gone and parks fans aren’t happy.
The video sings about bygone things that people loved like Extra Magic Hours, complimentary Magic Bands, Fast Pass+ and the Magic Express. When you see all of this in one promotional video, it really showcases how much Disney has taken away. What have they given in return, less and at a much higher cost.
Twitter account Disney Glimpses posted the following:
Hey, @WaltDisneyWorld, a quick reminder of what the Magic® used to look like. It is calling and I suggest you pick up. pic.twitter.com/6OuYJloKPR

The comments sum it all up nicely:
This commercial aged horribly. Disney even removed it from their official YouTube channel… none of it’s true anymore. So sad.

It is hilariously sad that pretty much everything in that commercial is not a thing anymore or they charge for it, other than the bus and monorail transportation on property. When is Bean Counter Bobby going to start charging for bus/boat/monorail use? 🥴

I’d like to see an edited version where he says “what’s fastpass plus, you ask?” and it immediately cuts to the Defunctland 1 hour and 43 minute video explaining it (and then finishes the song, of course)

Thanks for the reminder @disneyglimpses I can’t believe this is now considered nostalgic Disney.

Now if you stay on property you get an extra 30 minutes, instead of an hour. Plus, if you are well off and stay at a Deluxe resort you often get even more time after hours when the poor plebs go home. More money spent=more time in the parks.
The Magic Bands are no longer complimentary and you must pay for them. To be fair, they aren’t required, but they are easier. Remember your room costs more and you don’t even get a free Magic Band.
FastPass+ was complimentary and available to guests. This allowed you the opportunity to get some shorter lines for popular attractions. Not now. If you want shorter lines you have to pay an additional $15 per person/ per day, on the already more expensive park ticket. That’s not all, you can also just buy your way to the front of the line on two attractions per day at a charge that can be up to $15 per person/per attraction. What a deal, for Disney.
Finally, the free transportation. Not anymore. Disney cancelled the Magic Express and you must pay for your party to get a ride to the Walt Disney Resort now. Once there you can still use complimentary transportation on the monorail, buses, and boats (for now.) Skyliner is also available for those who’s hotel is on the line. In fact it’s the ONLY way you can get to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios if you are at a Skyliner hotel. If you are afraid of heights or don’t like the Skyliner, you are out of luck and must either go to another park and take a different method of transportation to the park you want or pay for a ride share or Minnie van to get you there.
So Disney is just full of upcharges and less for more!
That commercial did not age well. I can’t wait to see what they upcharge or take away next! But you can always count on annual price hikes on either tickets or hotels!
