The series will supposedly be based on the one sequence from Frozen II where Olaf recaps the story from the first Frozen film in a comedic way. Olaf would most likely reenact various films like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin etc. So for all those Frozen fans out there you are sure to get a fun little side event in this show.
This isn’t the first time Frozen had shorts. There was 2015’s Frozen Fever depicted Elsa trying to celebrate Anna’s birthday while having a cold which created small snow critters. There was 2017’s Olaf’s Frozen Adventure which saw Olaf discover the true meaning of Christmas, the 20 minute special originally paired with Pixar’s Coco but was pulled almost immediately due to complaints. And then 2020’s Disney Plus Exclusive Once Upon a Snowman, explaining how Olaf ended up meeting Anna and Kristoff after he was given life. Olaf seems to be the main focus of most Frozen related spin-offs.
In recent years Frozen has been declining in popularity as the “Let it Go” phase has seemingly died out. Frozen had a box office of $ 1.2 Billion in 2013 with tons in merchandise sales, and despite Frozen II making $1.4 Billion it made less domestically and didn’t receive the same amount of critical or audience praise and sold far less merchandise than Disney had hoped. Go to the store today and you’ll still see plenty of unsold Frozen II merchandise. The future of the franchise is seemingly up in the air right now.
The series is set to premier on November 12th Exclusively on Disney plus.
Are you looking forward to the new spin-off show
