Star Wars: Hunters is an upcoming 4v4 multiplayer shooter where you play as a team either representing the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance. Players get to battle in locations based on various worlds and planets from the Star Wars Saga.
You can play as a number of different types of characters. From Woolies, to Droids, to Jawas, to Jedi, to Stormtroopers, to Sith and more. Surprisingly one of the characters is a droid wielding a lightsaber but they can seemingly use the force. Perhaps they’re a cyborg instead of a robot that, according to lore, can’t use the force.
The game is clearly inspired by various hero shooter games like Team Fortress 2, Overwatch and Paladins. More heroes are expected to be added to the game via updates and DLC. Micro-transactions are also believed to accompany the game which is a given for the genre. Though the last time micro-transactions were un a Star Wars game it didn’t go over very well (* cough * Star Wats: Battlefront II).
The game will be made available for Nintendo Switch and mobile phones with no other platforms currently announced. Odd considering that the genre of hero shooters is very strong on PC/Windows. The same decision was made for Disney’s upcoming Melee Mania game. Perhaps ports to the PC will be made if enough players are vocal enough about the issue.
The game does seem fun to play, but without iconic Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano, and instead these original characters, I don’t think this game will last that long unless notable characters are added later down the line.
With Disney venturing into more multiplayer games with their IPs perhaps we’ll see more crazy concepts. Heck, maybe even see old ones come back like Star Wars: Demolition.
The game is expected to launch in 2022 with no specific date.
