New Photos Show Off Canceled “New Warriors” TV Show

Showrunner Kevin Beigel, known for shows like Courgartown and Enlisted, recently showed off various photos and videos on his Twitter of the canceled New Warriors Television series he was developing back in 2016 – 2017.

The images show off actress Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl (she also voiced the character in the Marvel Rising series), actor Derek Theler as Mr. Immortal and other behind the scenes cast and crew.

The series was meant to be a super hero sitcom where six superpowers individuals including, Squirrel Girl, Mr. Immortal, Night Thrasher, Microbe, Speedball and Debrii, who aren’t as powerful as the Avengers yet they still want to make a difference in the world. Think a backup team of heroes taking care of smaller threats.

The show began development in 2016 between Marvel Television, the same people behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and ABC Television/Freeform. The TV series was set to have a 10 Half Hour Episode run but was canceled in late 2018/early 2019 due to not being able to find a network to carry the series. This of course was Pre-Disney Plus so with no TV Channel to air the series they couldn’t release it.

Among the posts Beigel shared, he stated that the show was canceled due to… well… I’ll let the tweet he said speak for itself…

Apparently the show was supposed to have LGBTQ+ tones in it. How far would it have gone? Nobody knows.

The show was not meant to share continuity with the MCU and like the various Netflix series and the failed Inhumans show.

The showrunner later went on a bit of a rant, declaring he would not delete the photos or videos yet all are now gone, most likely due to lawyers getting involved, and all we have left are screenshots. (Warning language)

What do you think? Would you have watched this show?
