To help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of one of Pixar’s most beloved films, Monsters Inc., Pixar shared a brand new short on their twitter account. It reimagines the events of the film in a classic rubber hose style of animation you would have seen with the early Mickey Mouse shorts.
It’s scarin’ time!

The original film was released on November 2nd, 2001. It was amongst one of the first films to be nominated for Best Animated Feature along with Dreamwork’s Shrek and Nickelodeon’s Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Shrek ended up taking home the Oscar that evening.
The film followed Sully (John Goodman) and Mike (Billy Crystal) as they help a young girl who came from the human world into the monster world get back home. She is also being pursued by the evil monster Randall (Steve Buscemi).
Monsters Inc. is considered one of Pixar’s best and is what made Pete Docter one of Pixar’s most well known directors.
The short does capture the original spirit of the film and does a good job at re-creating that old 1930s style of Disney animation. Hopefully in the future Pixar will consider shorts like these for anniversaries of films like Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, Cars and Wall-E. Only time will tell.
