At the recent Gamescom 2021 convention we saw a glimpse of the upcoming new Legs Star Wars themed game, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which compiles The Original Trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy and the Disney Trilogy.

The game was first announced in December, 2019 and originally had a 2020 Release date, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak the game was delayed until 2021, but ultimately was delayed again until Spring 2022 which is its current release date.

The Lego Star Wars game series began in March of 2005 with the original Lego Star Wars: The Video Game which was a comedic retelling of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy as Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was releasing in May of that year. The game was a success which lead to Legend Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy in September of 2006. In 2007 was Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga which was a combination of the first two games in a single package.

With the success of the Lego Star Wars games the developer, Travelers Tales, expanded by making Lego Indiana Jones 1 & 2, Lego Batman, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, Lego Lord of the Rings and more like Marvel and DC. TT Games even returned to Star Wars with Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars in 2001 based on the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars Movie/TV Series and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2016 based on the first Disney Era film, meaning TT Games and/or Disney were too eager to release a game before the New Trilogy was finished.

Over the years the Lego games have changed in presentation. They started with character mumbling and miming but still acted out scenes from the stories, but eventually added Original Voice Acting and Audio from Movies which is what the new game will have, which has divided some Lego fans over time.

The game appears to be recreating Episodes 1 – 6 from the ground up instead of remaking the levels from the first two games, even The Force Awakens appears to ditch the levels from the 2016 game. The gameplay has also completely changed from a traditional 3D Platformer to a 3rd Person view. There will also be more open world locations as opposed to linear levels that recreate scenes from the films.

The game is said to have a large amount of content from each of the three eras the game represents. Hopefully there will be enough to satisfy any fan.

What do you think? Will you buy this game when it releases?
