The streaming wars are on and now it’s been announced that HBO Max is in early development on a new “Harry Potter” live-action series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

A Harry Potter live-action TV series is in early development at HBO Max. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that executives at the WarnerMedia-backed streamer have engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas that would bring the beloved property to television. Sources say broad ideas have been discussed as part of the early-stage exploratory meetings.”

Let me stress this is “early” development and could end up not happening at all. Currently no deals, talent, writers, etc. have been hired or announced. It’s simply the idea phase.

Currently HBO Max, Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling control the property and would like to do more the extremely popular IP.

Hollywood is pushing streaming content more and more with the pandemic closing theaters and new services popping up daily, content is in demand and beloved IP is even more so.

Investors also look at what franchises studios own and don’t need to pay right for, when investing and projections stocks as well. So it’s in the best interest of HBO Max / Warner to leverage the “Harry Potter” franchise now.

I’m sure we will get some kind of show, it’s just not clear yet where it falls in the Harry Potter timeline or when we will get it.

What do you think? Comment and let us know.
