For those who may have forgotten, yes, Ice Age 6 is happening. Despite the untimely death of BlueSky Animation at the hands of Disney via the Fox Acquisition a sixth, and presumably final film, in the Ice Age franchise is still in development with a 2022 release date on Disney Plus. With most of BlueSky’s Staff now gone the project is a co-development between 20th Century Animation (the parent studio of BlueSky) and Disney themselves.

It was recently confirmed via the Twitter account “DisneyTVANews” that composer Batu Sener, known for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Solo A Star Wars Story will be writing music for the film.

The Project was one of many in-development films at BlueSky but was selected to not be canceled due to Ice Age being one of their top franchises. Despite being the worst rated by both critics and audiences, Ice Age: Collision Course still made $408.5 Million. The 2019 film Spies in Disguise was near completion when Disney bough Fox so they allowed it to release while all the other in-development films, excluding Ice Age 6, were scrapped since Disney didn’t want another animation department competing with their previously existing ones. Supposedly another project that may also be in development is a Rio spin-off film with Pedro & Nico, who were voiced by Will.i.am and Jamie Foxx.

Disney still wants to try and milk as much money as they can from the Fox Deal so they are going through with the presumably last Ice Age film. The film’s subtitle is Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild and is more of a spin-off following the popular side character Buck Wild, voiced by Simon Pegg, and his adventures in the Dinosaur World hidden beneath the ice. It is unknown if any of the other Ice Age regulars will appear, but there is a high chance for Scrat as he usually has his own side adventures alongside the main story. Plus he sells tons of plushies.

Are you looking forward to another installment in this franchise that not even the death of its own studio can stop?
