Today was the day that the Walt Disney Company employees were going to protest against the Florida bill they’ve nicknamed “Don’t Say Gay Bill.” One would think that the walkout would be in Orlando as those employees are the ones impacted by the legislation, but it seems that only one protestor showed up in Florida and there were many more in California, about 100.
This is a bit surprising, but when one looks at the demands, they did seem to be mostly in favor of the employees in California that don’t want to relocate to Orlando. The demands even included them not being relocated and not being fired if they don’t more.
-
“Stopping any efforts to move employees to Florida office locations, ensuring employee safety and employment retention.
-
Guaranteeing no employee will be terminated when denying relocation to FL.”
In Florida one employee showed up to protest according to the Orlando Sentinel. That person is Nicholas Maldonado, 27. Maladonado works at Disney’s Character Warehouse off International Drive and sometimes at the Emporium in the Magic Kingdom.

He claims that he wanted to represent his fellow employees that couldn’t walkout as the union says it violates a “no-strike provision of its contract with the company.”
He has courage to stand alone. I respect that.
News outlets keep going on about all the Disney employees that walked out in protest but they aren’t specifying it was the employees in California, across the country from where the legislation is actually happening. Where Bob Chapek is being accused of not doing enough, but the people there didn’t walkout.
It’s an interesting twist for sure.
