More Star Wars Characters Coming to Galaxy’s Edge

Some days I wonder why we listen to anything public relations people say for theme parks throughout the world. I respect the job a public relations person does for a company. In an era of scandals, public relations skills can be handy. However, I cannot count how many times I was told that the really cool Star Wars characters from the Disney+ TV series could never appear in Galaxy’s Edge due to timeline issues. I was told this directly from representatives of Disney.

For example, we would ask about Baby Yoda (or Grogu when we found out his name) coming to Galaxy’s Edge. We are quickly told that could not happen. Well, it could not happen with Grogu still being young they would say. We would ask about Boba Fett or The Mandalorian. We quickly hear that would not fit the timeline unless those characters were very old. Galaxy’s Edge celebrates the period of Rey and Kylo Ren, right? We would not want to ruin the magic there, right?

Yet, what do I find in my newsfeed late on a Friday? You know the time period when you publish news when you really do not want anyone to notice. Behold, Disney Parks announced new Star Wars characters coming to Galaxy’s Edge area of Disneyland.

Scott Trowbridge, Portfolio Creative Executive with Walt Disney Imagineering, wrote this late Friday afternoon:

“Greetings from Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim where some of my fellow Imagineers, Lucasfilm colleagues and I just finished a panel called “From a Galaxy Far, Far Away to a Disney Park Near You” and we shared some exciting new developments about Star Wars at Disney Parks. The legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand will soon stake a claim in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park. Starting tomorrow, May 28th, visitors may find themselves encountering these two attempting to remain in the shadows around Black Spire outpost. Din Djarin, known as the Mandalorian, and Grogu, the child who found protection with Mando, also will journey to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park at a later date.”

Well, there it is folks, we finally got some Boba Fett. Apparently, we eventually can see Grogu, Mando, and Fennec Shand also. Well, at least in California, we can see them.

I have a few thoughts. I doubt they are incredible thoughts but I will type them anyway. First, this sounds great. The idea of not being so uptight about the Star Wars timeline at a theme park sounds wonderful. I have no idea how it will work but that is not my problem. Second, why only California? If this does not break the sacred timeline, then why not add it to Florida parks also. Third, if this timeline freestyle move seems acceptable, what else could happen? Can we get characters from the original trilogy with Luke, Leia, and their dad, Darth Vader? Who knows?

Whatever becomes of this, the Black Spire Outpost may have a new sheriff in town soon and his name is Boba Fett. Will he clean up that town? Will he simply lurk in the shadows? Only time will tell. One thing we know for sure, Galaxy’s Edge in California just got a bit more interesting.

May the force be with us all.
