More Details Emerge for the ‘Star Wars’: Galaxy’s Edge ‘Rise of the Resistance’ Attraction

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has already opened in Disneyland and it is set to open in Orlando on August 29, 2019.  Sadly, neither park will have the big new ‘Rise of the Resistance’ attraction until a bit later on the east coast sooner than the west coast.

Walt Disney World’s version of the attraction will open on December 5th and in Disneyland will follow a bit later on January 17th, 2020.

The Disney Parks Blog posted what the overall attraction “mission” is:

You will join the Resistance and depart from Batuu in a transport ship to meet General Leia Organa at a secret rendezvous point. Along the way, however, you will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer.

We are getting a bit more information on what to expect with this new attraction, especially involving the “drop.”  That will be included in the second half of the attraction.

The Disney Food Blog posted the following description:

During the second part of the attraction, guests will disembark from the ride vehicles and will be led by ..Poe Dameron. Guests will walk into the transport ship to leave Batuu…Eventually, the ship will be captured and pulled aboard the Star Destroyer. Guests will walk out of the ship into a large room, which is filled with rows and rows of mannequin Stormtroopers and a few human First Order guards (while ominous music plays in the background).

They continue:

LATER ON, GUESTS WILL BOARD THE TRIP TRANSPORT VEHICLE… THESE WILL HAVE TWO ROWS OF STADIUM-STYLE SEATING. DROIDS WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF NAVIGATING KEEP TAKING WRONG TURNS, AND EVENTUALLY GUESTS WILL GO INTO THE RIDE DRIP SYSTEM TO ESCAPE THE STAR DESTROYER.

Throughout most of the ride, the vehicles are operated by r5 droids, but when guests need to get on the escape pod, the trackless ride vehicle will actually pull into the escape pod. This escape pod will have a massive screen and will provide a motion-based experience similar to Star Tours.

The most EPIC part of this ride will be it’s dramatic ending. The whole thing is positioned on a jettison which will take guests on one Tower of Terror-like drop. There will only be one drop, so if you’re a bit freaked out by that, it’ll be over quickly! Besides, when you successfully complete your adventure, you’ll be celebrated through Batuu as a hero!

Wow! So this actually sounds cool!

If it works out it sounds like a few rides in one! Maybe they would have had a better attendance level had they waited and opened with this attraction finished? I think people are waiting till it’s all done to visit.

Rise of the Resistance does sound like a lot of fun, but I fear the drop will turn some people off.  Not me though! Bring it on!
