Like a vampire rising from their grave SONY’s anti-hero film Morbius will be returning to theaters in over 1,000 locations ahead of its home video release.

Recently the internet has become obsessed with the vampiric anti-hero as the “Morbin” internet meme has grown in popularity. Seeing the potential internet popularity can influence a film or show SONY decided to try and squeeze out some extra cash from the film. Those who missed the opportunity to see the film the first time can now crowd the theaters shouting “It’s Morbin Time!“.

The film originally released on April 1st and received mostly negative reviews from critics, calling the film dull and uninspired. Despite that the reception from audiences were mostly positive with a 71% RT score. But the film would see a 73% drop in box office attendance in its second week, taking the title of the biggest drop of any super hero movie ever.

The film closed with $163.3 Million against an $83 Million budget, a far cry from the $506.9 Million made by Venom: Let there be Carnage and the $1.892 Billion made by Spider-Man: No Way Home. Though perhaps you can attribute the low box office to Matt Reeves’ The Batman which came out weeks prior.

SONY is currently trying their best to develop their own brand of Marvel films thanks to their ownership of the Spider-Man film rights. Crafting films around various side characters to eventually plan team-up movies. Currently Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web and El Muerto are in development with other names like Black Cat, Silver Sable, Nightwatch, Silk, Prowler, Jackpot and the Sinister Six are all being thrown around.

With the re-release of Morbius in theaters possibly earning some extra cash and the potential for home video sales maybe this isn’t the last time we see Jared Leto take on the role of an undead blood sucker. Would you want to see a sequel?
