It looks like we are getting more than just a new attraction with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, it seems we are getting new characters too!
The OC Register is sharing information about Chuuby the bird, who has a “starring role” in the new attraction.

Why would they call him Chuuby instead of Chubby? Well there’s a story about that:
According to executive creative director at Imagineering, Kevin Rafferty: “When we were designing the character there was a misspelling. His original name was Chubby, but instead of two B’s, there were two U’s and it stuck.”
Like I always told kids in my art classes “Don’t worry about a mistake. Make it an opportunity” and it seems that’s what Disney did here.
But little Chuuby (Chew-bee) isn’t the only new character we will be getting according to Rafferty: “We have lots of new characters. We have a scene in the attraction that required some critters.”
Originally Chuuby was just going to be a background character but he became something more.
“Chuuby was going to just be part of the ambiance. Chuuby is a song-and-dance bird. He’s a ham. When he flew out of the nest what he really wanted to do was head to Broadway.”
So Disney thinks Chuuby could be something very popular and special. He’s definitely adorable! And, Disney has already made plushies and a purse of the character!
I love that they are doing this because I love all the adorable Duffy characters we see from the overseas parks in China and Japan and I would love to have more characters like Olu, or Duffy’s other friends, here in the United States!
I can’t wait to see the purse too. I wonder if any of the other animal characters will be made into adorable plushies too?
One thing we do know, thanks to WDWNT, is that there is a new merchandise stand that just popped up nearby.
The structure is meant to mimic the architecture of the Chinese Theater. It fits in perfectly!
I can’t wait to see what’s available when Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opens on March 4th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
