I’m sure by now many of you parks fans have heard that Walt Disney World is now removing the current Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse from their welcome sign at the corner of SR 535 and Hotel Plaza Boulevard. This comes right after they took down the iconic Tower of Terror billboard.
Apparently the news originated with @bioreconstruct on Twitter.
Very wide panorama photo of the Welcome to Walt Disney World signage at Hotel Plaza Blvd and SR 535. Likely to be removed soon. There’s stakes marking upcoming construction nearby. This intersection to have an overpass. pic.twitter.com/GKkJpM2DiW

Many fans are not happy as they look forward to seeing the Mickey and Minnie welcome sign when they arrive at Walt Disney World.
I can’t think that Disney would not feature the characters on the entry way and given the push for IP, I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t replaced with several characters in the near future.
I’m sure they will be replaced with something.
Who knows, the way Disney is going lately maybe they will just put up advertisements boards for their latest film or Disney+ shows or offerings at the resort gate. I’m surprised they haven’t started charging tolls just to get into the resort area yet.
All joking aside, I’m sure they will replace them with updated versions or something else. I can’t see them not having some kind of iconic welcome sign coming into the parks. Bob Chapek is cheap but I don’t think he is so out of touch that he would leave it empty. (Yes I am second guessing myself as I write this.)
