According to the Orlando Informer, both the new ‘Mary Poppins’ expansion for the United Kingdom in the World Showcase, and the Spaceship Earth segment for the refurbishment have been removed from “The EPCOT Experience” show.

When we were there in February we streamed the show:

In this new video posted today by The Schmoofs on Youtube you can see they were removed:

Here’s their write up about it:

Epcot officially reopened today, 7/15/2020, and the Epcot Experience has CHANGED! The Spaceship Earth refurbishment has been removed from the video! The Mary Poppins attraction has also been removed from the video as well as the poster lining the outside. We’re assuming Mary Poppins has been CUT from the future of Epcot!

It is important to note that the Moana Journey of Water attraction, the Play Pavilion, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are all still in the video. However the “Coming in Summer 2020” sign that was up near the Ratatouille attraction, has been removed.

What could be happening?

We knew after the Investor Call meeting that cuts were definitely coming, as the company was losing so much money with the parks, cruise line, and movie divisions being down.  Previously we heard that Spaceship Earth was to close for a two-year long refurbishment starting on May 26th, but a month or so ago, we were told it was going to reopen with the rest of EPCOT.

The Mary Poppins project had been announced, but it hadn’t started yet, so it could easily be shelved.

Several projects have been speculated to receive cuts, and the EPCOT retheme is going to be pared back, but nothing else has been confirmed and many insiders believe that there are a lot of unannounced projects that will be cut or postponed to make up some of the lost revenue as well.

It isn’t clear if these projects have been cancelled, or just postponed indefinitely. Spaceship Earth really does need a refurbishment, but to be honest, I wasn’t keen on their “new” take where it seemed more about finding ways to change it and shoe horn in IP.  They were taking the theme of communication and changing it to storytelling with “Spaceship Earth: Our Shared Story.”  I do hope they can fix the ending and update it at some point, but it doesn’t need IP.

As of right now, they have been removed. No official word on why.
