Mango Ginger Kiss from Voodoo Doughnut

Recently, Universal Orlando revealed new seasonal perks for annual passholders valid until May 26th, 2022.  Many exclusive to annual passholders menu items appeared on May 3rd at Universal Orlando. In typical fashion, Voodoo Doughnut created a seasonal doughnut for this occasion. My favorite thing about Voodoo Doughnut being at Universal Orlando CityWalk involves their willingness to create new items often.

When I participated recently in a chaotic doughnut eating challenge with Universal Food Blog last week, I asked about the upcoming seasonal offering. I expected to hear the same horchata offering like at many Voodoo Doughnuts nationwide. However, I was told no horchata but a ginger doughnut coming.

For this short period of exclusive annual passholders perks, Voodoo Doughnut created a “Mango Ginger Kiss” doughnut. In typical fashion for seasonal doughnuts, this costs $3.75. Also, in typical fashion, this seasonal doughnut offers a distinct filling. Officially, only passholders may purchase this doughnut. The menu description for it reads “glazed yeast shell doughnut, mango custard filling, topped with ginger icing and crystalized ginger.”

So, what do people think of this doughnut so far?

So far, the original intelligence I got from the team member at Voodoo Doughnut describes it well. She told me it was to be a ginger doughnut. Xavier Hamilton, of Universal Food Blog said you need to really like ginger to enjoy this doughnut. In addition, he compared this doughnut to a mango flavored ginger ale.

Unless you get a portion of the mango filling in your bite, the dominant flavor of ginger permeates this creation. Since this is a shell style doughnut, you might get bites of it on the edges with no filling. The frosting on top provides even more ginger flavor. The raised yeast shell doughnut tastes good. Voodoo Doughnut creates a solid shell style doughnut generally. The shell makes a solid base for the ginger flavoring.

If this doughnut sounds like your type of thing, I suggest visiting soon. Officially, this doughnut can be purchased until May 26th. If this ginger-based doughnut fails to draw your interest, wait until June because we should expect a new seasonal doughnut from Voodoo Doughnut then.

As always, eat like you mean it!
