An issue of a Star Wars comic book is causing a bit of a stir online, as people think Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic Jedi Master Mace Windu looks like a racist caricature and… a bit, well, simian.

The image is from IDW Publishing’s Star Wars Adventures #9, published in 2020.
It should be noted that Windu does not look quite as… off… in other panels in the book, and this was likely just the artist’s style and not a deliberate trolling.
And Windu has been drawn many times over in other Star Wars comics, and they somehow managed to not make him look so awful.
However, that didn’t stop many Twitter users from questioning why IDW editors didn’t catch the image before going to press. Especially with Disney’s increased focus on diversity and inclusion.
brah, this racist af lol https://t.co/1Q2Qu9Gffh

While this kind of outrage might normally push Disney to react… it’s unnecessary. IDW Publishing is ceasing publication of both the all-ages Marvel Comics and Star Wars lines.
The word is that Disney pulled the license, for unknown reasons likely not related to this particular issue.
Anyway, as they like to say… this is a “bad look” in “current year.”
