The Guardians of the Galaxy series was quite the surprise hit. While not originally a popular team in the comic books, being made up of C-List hero characters, the film became quite the hit. James Gunn’s comedic style mixed well with the oddball band of misfits in outer space.
Since then the Guardians of the Galaxy (GotG) have become a popular team and even moving up to a B-List team in the comics behind the Avengers and X-Men.
One character from the Guardians film series that stands out is that of Nebula, played by Karen Gillan. The adopted daughter of Thanos and adopted sister of Gamora, she was originally a rival of Gamora who eventually turned on her foster father and aided the Avengers in defeating Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
Now that the third Guardians film is in active development we will be getting more details about the film. In a recent interview Gillan explained how her character will be going through some major changes due to the events of Endgame:
“One of the most interesting things about Nebula for me was her relationship with her father and sister. And now that her father, Thanos, has been eliminated, he was the source of all of her torment and abuse. It’s really interesting to explore how this character starts to heal and who this character starts to become now that the threat that was always looming over her is gone. So I’ve been having a lot of fun with that.“
“I love my character so much. I’m obsessed with her. Honestly, I’m just fascinated. I think it’s just been so lucky. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving because she starts off as this villain, and I was given the opportunity to really kind of show her perspective and her point of view on things. I think it’s been like six movies, and I just think she’s completely fascinating. Her whole family dynamic, her upbringing, toxic narcissistic family system. It’s all the stuff I love to explore.“
With the third and final Guardians film looking to be an epic finale we can most certainly see Nebula as a major player in the final film. Exploring her changes and her relationship with the alternate version of her foster sister Gamora as the original Gamora died in the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ film.
