Get ready to relive the mastery of two of Steven Spielberg’s films: Jaws and E.T.:The Extra Terrestrial as they make their way back into movie theaters later this year. Both of these iconic films have cult followings and gave rise to attractions at the Universal theme parks around the world.

1975’s Jaws will be floating into theaters on September 2nd in IMAX and RealD 3D. Jaws in 3D could be terrifying! The IMAX showings will only be in 2D. Jaws is a film about a beach town that is terrorized by a large Great White Shark.

1982’s E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial is another Spielberg masterpiece about an extra terrestrial that lands on earth and connects with a boy named Elliott, and the two have to manage humanity’s confusion with the extra terrestrial. This film will rerelease on August 12th to mark the film’s 40th Anniversary.

Note: I purposefully didn’t go into plot too much because there are still people who haven’t seen these films.

Jim Orr, president of domestic theatrical distribution for Universal pictures stated, “Universal is honored to have been a part of so many extraordinary, unforgettable Steven Spielberg films over the past 47 years, including Jaws in 1975, E.T. in 1982, and Jurassic Park in 1993. No filmmaker, it’s fair to say, has had a greater or more enduring impact on American cinema or has created more indelible cinematic memories for tens of billions of people worldwide. We couldn’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate the anniversary of E.T. and the first Universal-Spielberg summer blockbuster, Jaws, to allow audiences to experience these films in a way they’ve never been able to before.”

Having worked at both the Jaws and E.T. Adventure at Universal Orlando, this excites me. I have seen both movies and can see how they both lend themselves to attractions in a major theme park. Although Jaws: The Ride is longer with us, the legacy of the attraction still stands. RIP Jaws: The Ride.

No information about tickets for these rereleases have been divulged at this time. With Spielberg’s newest release, Jurassic World Dominion, will come a trailer for the IMAX release of E.T.

Are you looking forward to seeing these two films again in IMAX or 3D? Let us know in the comments below.
