Born March 26, 1940 in the Bronx, New York, James Caan’s career in Hollywood spanned numerous decades.  Over the course of his impressive career, he played numerous iconic roles.  Some of the ones that come to mind were in “Misery,” “Elf,” and “The Godfather.”  “Elf,” a timeless Christmas movie, sees James Caan playing the unknowing father of Buddy the Christmas Elf, played by Will Ferrell.  Throughout the movie, Caan’s character transforms into the loving father that Buddy has always wanted.  In “The Godfather,” James Caan played the role of  Sonny Corleone, son of the mob boss Vito Corleone. “The Godfather” went on to win best Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Tributes for James Caan has flooded the internet in the past couple days from fans and celebrities alike.

Jason Alexander tweeted his condolences, “The great James Caan left us today.  If you’ve never seen his performance in Brian’s Song, try to find it.  One of the great tearjerkers. A great body of work, sir. Good journey to you.”

Barbara Streisand, who starred alongside Caan in “Funny Lady,” tweeted her thoughts on Caan’s passing.

James Caan leaves behind five children: Scott Caan, James Arthur Caan, Tara Caan, Jacob Caan, and Alexander Caan.  His son, Scott Caan, followed in his father’s footsteps and is pursuing an acting career having starred in the CBS television show “Hawaii 5-O.”
