A week or so ago people were all excited as Disney had filed permits for work on the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT at Walt Disney World. For quite awhile now there have been rumors swirling about Disney possibly overlaying or redoing “The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros” with ‘Coco.’
We already saw them utilize the newer IP in the museum area with ‘Day of the Dead’ inspired exhibits and two cool displays that feature the ancestors in Coco materializing. Music in the area and some shows have been themed to the animated film as well.
A lot of fans are really hoping for the upgrade.
When the permits filed showed the location of the Mexico pavilion we all started to wonder if we were actually getting something new and perhaps ‘Coco’ themed.
But now we are hearing that it might be something much less exciting from a guest perspective.
We have heard from a source that the permits seems to be for updates, but for refreshes on the breakrooms or bathrooms and some new cable being added into the pavilion in the museum area.
Not exactly as exciting as we hoped, but much more realistic in terms of infrastructure and maintenance. Given the shortages on building materials, supplies, etc. it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Disney to add on to the construction projects right now.
But who knows. Maybe they will surprise us. It’s all just rumor and speculation until Disney confirms anyway.
