Hulu Removes “Black Face Scene” From Golden Girls– Which is Simply Mud Mask

In a continuation of Hollywood trying to remove “black face” from everything, even when it isn’t, they have now removed a 1988 episode of The Golden Girls called “Mixed Feelings.”

This episode was the 23rd in season 3 and it’s problematic because Rose (Betty White) and Blanche (Rue McClanahan) have mud masks on their faces and Rose being Rose makes a classic “dumb” joke.

The episode was about Dorothy’s (Bea Arthur) son Michael (Scott Jacoby) wanted to marry an older black woman named Lorraine (Rosalind Cash.)  In the episode Dorothy has issues with the age difference and Lorraine’s family has issues with her marrying a white man.

When Lorraine’s family comes to visit Blanche and Rose come out with mud masks on their faces and Rose, in typical Rose fashion, states “This is mud on our faces, we’re not really Black.”

This is enough to get this episode banned for “black face” likely because them wearing the mud mask was set up for the joke.

Many people on Twitter are calling it out!

The majority of comments on this, from all sides, think that removing this episode of Golden Girls is missing the point.

It’s not just this show also seen episodes removed from shows like Community and 30 Rock recently. Honestly I’m surprised they haven’t just removed Community as the whole show points out and pokes fun at social topics that would be considered “insensitive” and “problematic” by Twitter.

I’m sure tomorrow will lead to yet another deletion of something, deserving or not, we’ll keep you posted.

What do you think? Comment and let us know.
