Hasbro’s Rancor to Fail? 15 Days Left, New Unlocks Announced, 4k Backers Short

I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Hasbro’s crowdfunding arm, HasLab, has been attempting to get 9k people to pre-order the Star Wars Black Series Rancor. So far, just over 4k people have bought in, and there are only 15 days left.

Last week we covered the first two tier reveals that would be included if the campaign were to surpass several more thousand backers. Those were set to be unlocked at 11k and 13,500 backers. Now Hasbro has uncovered the last two tiers if the Rancor somehow manages to pass 16k and 20k: Luke Skywalker and Salacious B. Crumb.

I figured that a Luke toy would be included at some point, mainly because this version of the Jedi Knight hasn’t been re-released for some time. It’s fantastic that he comes on a classic Power of the Force card and includes a coin. I’d buy him on his own.

Crumb, on the other hand, is an exciting pick. Sure, he gets a short bit of screen time laughing as Luke gets dumped in the Rancor’s pit, but I’d rather have the handler or maybe the little entryway area as an extra for 20,000.

On top of the announcements, Hasbro also added several images of the Rancor sporting a color scheme rather than the primer gray. Is it me, or does the color appear to be too light? Maybe it is the lighting of the puppet in the film, but I swear the creature was a lot darker. At least this color scheme is better than the light-brown plastic the ’80s toy was molded in. It was like the Rancor had gone to the tanning bed.

I think HasLab went around this the wrong way. There should have been a build-up to the Rancor figure. After the Barge, we should have gotten Jabba’s throne room, then Jabba, then the Rancor. That’s just me, though.

What are your thoughts on this HasLab figure? Let us know in the comments.
