Hasbro is continuing to pull from Kenner’s popular resurrected Power of the Force line of Star Wars toys that ruled the toy aisles in the mid-to-late 1990s. The newest character to get the retro packaging is Princess Leia, as she appeared during the ceremony on Yavin 4 during the conclusion of A New Hope.
She will come packaged in the classic PotF card back, but unlike the previous version of this character from the late ’90s, this Leia is part of the Black Series and stands at 6″ tall. The last princess of Alderaan is currently available for pre-order. She’ll cost you $29.99 and will ship at the start of February 2022.
Recall intense moments from the Star Wars Galaxy with this Star Wars The Black Series Lucasfilm 50th anniversary 6-inch-scale Princess Leia Organa (Yavin 4) figure with 1 accessory, featuring premium deco across multiple points of articulation.
Aside from being a new figure with some retro packaging, there’s not much else going on here. Unfortunately, Hasbro didn’t recreate the gimmick that came along with the original packaging. The ceremonial Princess Leia was released just before The Phantom Menace‘s release in theatres. It was about a year prior, if I remember. I was working at Target and remembered stocking this figure in the toy aisle.
The figures in this PotF line had pull tabs on the packaging that let you see the character’s ancestors or younger selves from the upcoming prequel movie. Leia’s was, of course, Padme.
As noted in our Top 10 Worst Looking Star Wars Action Figures, the original toy left much to be desired. However, Hasbro has improved the face. Now Leia looks less like Charo and more like the beautiful Carrie Fisher.
What are your thoughts on Hasbro digging up Kenner’s toys from the ’90s? Too soon? Too much nostalgia bait? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
