Food Prices Rising at Universal Orlando

Not too long ago, I wrote an article not so subtly making fun of prices going up across the board for food at Walt Disney World. I pointed out that “Dole Whip” still costs $3.99 at Universal Orlando as opposed to the new price in the Magic Kingdom. I often voice the cry that Universal Orlando should appeal to a larger audience based on being more budget friendly than Walt Disney World. For example, imagine an Epcot festival with a dining card giving guests a 20% discount.

However, my personality leads me to point out that Universal Orlando slowly increased food prices over the last month or so. Many I have pointed out in other articles. The increase in prices can be seen at full/table service dining places also at Universal Orlando. However, most Universal Orlando guests select quick service options. Let me take us on a quick photo tour of the most noticeable increased prices for quick service food for example.

Over at Natural Selections in Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure, a few items increased slightly. The most notable price increase involves the empanadas. I will need to reflect on whether this quality snack continues as a good deal at $7.99.

Over in Marvel Super Hero Island, the “Pizza Stuffed Pretzel” at the Lemon Slush stand increased in price. The pretzel now costs $7.19. This filling snack provided great value at under $7 before. This slight increase should not change people’s interest in this snack though.

Of all the menu price increases that were surprising to me, the next one ranks highest. The popcorn refill buckets now cost $12.29. This increase for a non-themed popcorn bucket was a dollar more. Moreover, the refill price and single serve price increased 19 cents. Also, at risk of writing something that will be obsolete in a week or two, the flavored popcorn price increased for a single serve to $6.69. In addition, the refill price for flavored popcorn no longer displays on menu board in Islands of Adventure.

While Universal Orlando guests have watched prices increase in other places like Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck, Green Eggs and Ham, and Central Park Crepes, these changes should have been expected. Staff wages increased at Universal Orlando. The simple cost of food/beverage supplies increased over last year or so. Like most of the changes over at Walt Disney World regarding prices, these will not break your bank. However, please be aware in preparation for your next trip to Universal Orlando. As always, eat like you mean it!
