Over the last couple of days several blogs broke the story about the upcoming Regal Eagle Smokehouse at Epcot having a connection to The Muppet’s Sam Eagle.
Now that the bird is out of the bag, the Disney Parks Blog has posted an official announcement for Sam Eagle’s “involvement.”
“The restaurant takes its name from the venerable Sam Eagle, the Muppet known for his patriotism and strict sense of duty and honor. He takes all things seriously … and barbecue is certainly one of those things.
Regal Eagle Smokehouse will be the site for “Sam’s Centennial Cook-Off: A Salute to All Cook-Offs but Mostly Barbecue.” Guests will be the beneficiaries of this contest – described as “a competition fit for all patriots and pit masters” – as it brings in a variety of classic backyard barbecue selections from across the country to vie for Sam’s top honor ”
I love Sam’s Centennial Cook-Off slogan. It’s perfect.
For those that don’t know, The Liberty Inn at the American Adventure Pavilion in the World Showcase at Epcot, closed down a few months back to receive the update to a BBQ-Smokehouse restaurant. The new location will be called the “Regal Eagle” in honor of Sam Eagle.
If you love Sam Eagle this will be the place to go. Besides hosting the “Centennial Cook-Off” he’s going to appear on merchandise sold at the restaurant as well.
Now, if only we could get “Great Moments in History” over at The American Adventure, then it would be epic, but with the American Adventure show and the America Gardens Theater right there too, it’s unlikely.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available! Till then here’s a look at some of the upcoming menu items!
