EA Games ‘Star Wars Squadrons’ Trailer Released and VR Will Be Supported

EA has been working on a new Star Wars game. This one is called Star Wars Squadrons. This new game takes place after the events of  Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Basically around the original trilogy.

Now this new game will be released for Xbox One, PS4 and PC (Steam, Origin and Epic Game Store.) My son is thrilled because it will have virtual reality play on both PC and PS4 as well as “full crossplay between all three platforms.”

The game will also offer both a single-player campaign option and a multiplayer option.

What is interesting to me is that it seems you can play as both an Imperial and New Republic pilot. Engadget offered some more info on this:

The single-player campaign takes place after the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the Death Star II. You’ll swap between the perspectives of two pilots: one from the New Republic’s heroic Vanguard Squadron and the other representing the Empire’s Titan Squadron. Both pilots are customizable and the campaign will feature an array of original characters. You might also spot cameos from some familiar faces.

The multi-player mode will include five vs. five in both dogfights and Fleet battles:

..online modes include five vs. five dogfights and Fleet Battles, in which you’ll work with your teammates to take down the enemy flagship. You’ll prepare for missions with the rest of your squadron in a briefing room before hopping into your starfighter and going into battle. Squadrons will feature familiar locations and brand new ones, including Yavin Prime and the moon of Galitan. EA suggests that team composition will be important too.

One interesting point that EA made was about how to get modifiers and cosmetic element. EA face a ton of backlash after they made all the cool stuff “DLC” in “Battlefront 2.” It seems they may have learned something with this game because they are saying that those types of items will be able to be earned through gameplay alone now.

My husband and son both wondered how much would be behind a paywall when I told them the trailer was up. So they were  happy to hear that EA is changing that for this game.

If you are interested in the game it will be released on October 2 for $39.99. Also, if you have EA Access or Origin Access Basic member, you can try out 10 hours of the game at launch and then save 10% if you choose to purchase. Engadget also pointed out that  “Origin Access Premier subscribers will get full access to the game on PC. Meanwhile, PS4 players can claim some bonus cosmetics if they pre-order.
