Drag Superstar Shea Couleé Lands Marvel Role

RuPaul’s Drag Race superstar, Shea Couleé, will join Marvel’s Ironheart to air on Disney+. Shea Couleé’s role will remain a secret until airing on Disney+.

Ironheart is said to be the story of Riri Williams, an intelligent inventor, who has created an advanced amour suit as advanced as Iron Man’s suit. Dominique Thorne has been tapped to play the main character, Riri Williams.  Other actors to join Thorne include Anthony Ramos and Alden Ehrenreich with Chinaka Hodge as the head writer for the show.

Shea Couleé posted on her Instagram about the project with Marvel saying: “I’m trying to find the words to express the deep excitement I feel over this project. Acting was my first love long before Drag. So it only seems fitting to end my Drag Race journey and begin my acting career in the biggest way I could imagine. Stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been like stepping into OZ. ‘Ironheart’ is top to bottom going to be an absolutely STUNNING experience for the viewers, and I’m so humbled everyday that I get to work on set with some of the best and most dedicated artists in the industry. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey, and I look forward to sharing the exciting new chapter with you all 💖”

Shea Couleé first appeared on the Emmy Winning Rupaul’s Drag Race in Season 9 where she came in runner-up to Sasha Velour when the two ferociously lip sync battled to the song “So Emotional” by Whitney Houston. Shea Couleé went on to win RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars Season 5 beating out fan favorites, Miz Cracker and Jujubee. Additionally, she finished as a finalist (3rd place) on the all winners run of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars Season 7.

Shea Couleé, who’s real name is Jaren Kyei Merrell, is a staple and icon in the Chicago drag scene. She has also toured the country in various drag tours including Werq the World and A Drag Queen Christmas. Shea Couleé has also appeared on several cast recordings from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

As of now, no details about Couleé’s role in Ironheart have been announced and Marvel has not commented on the addition of the drag superstar to the cast.  Fans of Shea Couleé are eager to see her in Ironheart.
