Donny Yen Would Consider Coming Back To Star Wars As Chirrut Imwe

Donny Yen, who played Chirrut Imwe in Star Wars: Rogue One recently stated in an interview that he would be open to a return to a galaxy far, far away.

Yen played Imwe who was the blind character in the prequel to ‘A New Hope.’ He and Baze Malbus, played by Wen Jiang, were fantastic in the ‘Rogue One’ film and have become fan favorites.

Both characters died in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One,’ as did pretty much everyone in that film, but they have a Cassian Andor show coming out after that character died, so it can be done.

During an interview with Looper Yen indicated that he would consider returning if it was his destiny to do so (he was also wearing a Rebel Alliance sweater at the time.)

Well, I would definitely consider it. I had a great time shooting “Rogue One,” and I guess people like my character. It really depends, you don’t know what they’re thinking. I leave it up to Disney to sort it out. We’ll see. I believe in destiny. A lot of times, what brings people together in one film, it’s all about timing and destiny.”

Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus were both members of the Guardians of the Whills, who are also known as Protectors of the Temple of the Kyber. The Empire took the crystals for the Death Star.

Side note, the Whills was an earlier version of what became the “Force” we know in pop culture today.

Personally I would love to see a movie or an entire show based on these two characters. I think with their backstory and the status with fans, Disney and Lucasfilm could easily get a worthwhile series out of it.

Hoping destiny is with Mr. Yen on this one! I would love to see it.
