ESPN wasn’t the only casualty of cuts from Disney. It appears that Disney’s Studio division has also received some layoffs, but not the extend that ESPN saw.
According to Deadline, Searchlight Pictures, Disney Studios marketing and Disney’s New York theatrical team also was hit with layoffs. There were about 50 people in total that were let go, but Disney also eliminated hundreds of positions.
Broadway has been facing issues because they haven’t been running shows due to COVID-19. Several shows, like ‘Frozen’ were shut down permanently. Theater cuts are not surprising.
What wasn’t cut yet is the Walt Disney Television arm of the company. But since they are mobilizing to shift their focus to streaming and direct-to-consumer content they might need all the people they have and then some.
I’m sure more cuts are likely coming.
