Disney’s Encanto Returns To Theaters Following Success On Disney Plus

Disney’s 2021 film Encanto will be making a second round in theaters following the massive success on the Disney Plus streaming platform. Now all those who missed out on seeing the film in theaters now has a second chance to experience it on the big screen.

The film originally released in theaters on November 24th, 2021 for that year’s Thanksgiving weekend. The film only made roughly $80 Million domestically against a budget of $120 Million – $150 Million.

The film was profitable at the world wide box office with a total of $240 Million, but that is still relatively low for a major release from the studio. Similar to how Raya and the Last Dragon released March 5th, 2021 but was also a domestic disappointment, mostly due to being offered on Disney Plus’ $30 “Premium Access”.

The reasons why Encanto failed to meet expectations during its original release can be attributed to Disney only spending a minuscule $14 Million to advertise the film and the fact that Encanto was being offered on Disney Plus for no extra charge the week of Christmas.

With the massive online presence the film has gained since its release on streaming you can bet that Disney will do whatever they can to capitalize on its popularity. For a limited time you can see Encanto in theaters for either a second time or for the first time.

With the film’s popularity there has been talk of possibly a Broadway Musical, a sequel and even an animated series on Disney Plus. This is all just speculation at this point but it wouldn’t be surprising.

Are you excited to see the film return to theaters? Are you planning on seeing it on the big screen with your family? Are you ready to dance to “We don’t talk about Bruno” in your seat? Better hurry because it is unknown how long this re-release will be viewable.
