Disney has just announced their new baby boy. He’s an almost six foot tall baby giraffe!
The new baby was born on June 10 to mom Lily who is a Masai giraffe.
This birth is another successful result of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan Program.
Giraffes are apparently ” facing a silent extinction in the wild, with a population decline of 40 percent over the past 30 years.” Only about 35,000 Masai giraffes are left in the wild and that number is declining.
So this is truly good news!
Also in happy news, guests will be able to see Lily and the new baby soon on the Kilimanjaro Safaris when they join the herd!
